An eSIM checklist for before you fly

A few checks before departure make an eSIM easier to install and use after arrival.

01

Confirm device compatibility

Your phone must support eSIM and usually needs to be unlocked for another network profile.

  • Check the exact device model, not only the product family
  • Confirm that the device is carrier-unlocked
  • Keep the existing SIM active if you still need its calls or messages

02

Choose data for the real trip

Match the coverage area, validity and data amount to your itinerary and normal usage.

  • Check every country in a multi-country journey
  • Count validity from the provider’s stated activation event
  • Allow more data for hotspot use, video or frequent navigation

03

Install without exposing the QR code

Treat the activation code and QR code as private. Install with reliable internet and follow the provider instructions.

  • Do not publish or forward a private QR code
  • Label the new mobile plan clearly
  • Enable the correct data line and roaming setting only as instructed
